At Stylo we don’t offer off-the-shelf training packages. Our approach to teaching is based on years of developing and running training courses in a huge variety of disciplines for an equally huge range of delegates. What we’ve learned is that people learn best by doing, and this philosophy is at the heart of a Stylo course. It’s about as far removed from the ‘one size fits all’ approach as it’s possible to get.

We offer two core courses as well as a specialised writing course targeting teachers and parents. Our Inspiration to ISBN course and its follow-up Masterclass are delivered over five days or three weekends, giving you tremendous flexibility to cherry-pick the course that best suits your needs. Please speak to us if you are unsure about which course to choose. Five-day courses typically run from 9.00 a.m. Monday morning to 5.00 p.m. Friday afternoon, while the weekend courses run from 9.00 a.m. Saturday to 5.00 p.m. Sunday. Guests are invited to arrive any time after 4.00 p.m. the day before a course begins.

There are no lengthy lectures; instead teaching is done in workshops through exercises that are both stimulating and insightful. Each morning we meet as a group and learn about everything from basic writing skills to advanced techniques. You’ll also have plenty of individual access to each tutor, where you’ll receive guidance on how to make the most of your particular writing skills. Throughout the day you’ll work individually or in pairs, developing and applying the techniques you’ve covered in a session to your own area of specialisation. Sometimes you’ll have to think on your feet, writing from instinct; at other times you’ll produce one small piece of highly-polished work. You’ll gain an insider’s knowledge of the marketplace and a clear idea of what’s involved in writing professionally. At the end of the core courses you’ll have a defined end result - a book synopsis, a pitch or a strategy - to help you achieve your literary goal.

The Stylo Approach

Stylo at a glance:

An Individual  Approach

  1. Small numbers, allowing us to deliver individual training that focuses on what’s really important to you

  2. A flexible approach that lets you put together your own training schedule.

A Writing Community

  1. A group that eats and lives together, sharing ideas and experiences, forming new friendships and generating plenty of discussion.

  2. A ‘home-from-home’ where you’ll offer and receive feedback with your fellow students throughout the week.

Continuous Mentoring

  1. Industry-qualified trainers with solid publishing backgrounds who live and work with you for the duration of the course, unlike some writing courses where access to the experts is limited to a single one-to-one session.
