From Inspiration to ISBN

Monday 5 to Friday 9 May 2014

Plockton, Western Scotland

To write fiction is to embark on an incredible adventure. From Inspiration to ISBN is a five-day writing course that will equip you with the tools (and weapons!) you need to live the journey to the full. You’ll learn about the pitfalls that pepper the path to publication. You’ll find your way to the heart of your story by exploring the hidden corners of your imagination. We’ll teach you to structure a compelling narrative and develop the characters that will inhabit your story. Above all you’ll experiment, have fun, and really stretch yourself as a writer.

You’ll be living, working and eating with like-minded people at the Plockton Gallery on the beautiful West Coast. Arguably the most picturesque village in the Highlands, Plockton has long provided a haven for artists of all disciplines. Set amid a background of islands and mountains, the main street is an idyllic mix of neat whitewashed cottages and palm trees that nestle around a tiny harbour. The Gallery offers a cosy, relaxed environment where you’ll work surrounded by world class art from contemporary artists that’s guaranteed to inspire you. Much of our work takes place in one of the larger communal rooms, with break-out areas that provide cosy corners for individual and small group work. The Gallery has free wifi, and you are welcome to bring a laptop with you.

This course is aimed at beginning writers or writers in the early stages of a project who need practice with specific techniques. The focus is on creating powerful beginnings, building believable characters, adding depth to plots and putting together an irresistible submissions pack.

Five-day residential: £680. Non-residential: £410. Places are extremely limited so book early to avoid disappointment.  Email us for for details.
